Is it safe to leave a 2kW convector heater on for many days in a row?
I’ve just bought a 2kW convector heater from Argos to warm up my flat and so far it’s doing a pretty good job. I’ve thought about turning it off when I go to bed but don’t want to wake up to a cold room as my underfloor heating isn’t working very well at the moment. Is it safe to leave the convector heater on for so long without letting it rest/cool off or do I need to turn it off every now and then?
If it is a properly listed appliance (CE, CSA or UL or whatever the listing agency is for your country) it will be rated for continuous use.
In general, I do not like to leave plug-in electric heaters operating when unattended – so turn it off when you are not in the flat. And, common sense suggests that it be placed away from any materials that might be flammable or damaged by heat – and with some space around it also for that reason.
Otherwise, you are fine.
