Buildings: Structural steel fasteners, are they all the same?
Many old buildings in the UK are structurally safe putting links of steel in the walls standing. I thought these were made in the heat and tie would be agreement on the cooling to make the walls close. Is this true? Also, there are different end plates. There are some Xs are in the form of an S. Is there a reason for different plates?
Structural links are set using the coefficient of expansion principle, I do not think .. Common sense dictates that obtaining a hot metal rod to expand requires a lot heat. The heat should be applied to the total length of the stem was to expand enough that when it is cooled enough contracts to tighten it, otherwise the heat would be evacuated before the expansion could take sufficient. The precise calculation the length of the stem would be necessary to ensure that the contraction would be just enough to give the correct pressure without causing a crushing effect. If it was not all, you have the problem of setting a red hot rod, without setting fire to the building or burning cooperatives. Normally rod was threaded on each end and gently pressure was applied by tightening a nut at each end. The idea was just enough pressure to prevent any further movement. This kind of link has not been used to return the building to its integrity original. The plates at each end were there to spread the load. This design was a matter of preference and double models X S, some were round or oval patches of melting. Whenever this type of stress is seen in a building, it is usually and indication that there insufficient lateral restraint. If thinking of buying a property with this type of restriction, I recommend.

Buying a Good Bass
Buying a Good Bass
If you are a seasoned and experienced in upright bassist, the more likely we know what to look for a good bass. Often, however, even players who have been playing bass long time, still not knowing what to look for in a bass. As a player myself, I know there is a "grass is always greener" type of attitude. The moment you get a low (a porter!) That will no doubt find something (or a couple of things) we do not like or special attention in the coming weeks or months with low self and when we get to know the instrument.
In this article I will review what kinds of things to look and to avoid the in the purchase of a bass. Also, how not to (hopefully) get swept up into the "puppy love" type of purchase and costly mistakes.
There are all kinds of low upright. Large, small, cheap and well, they are not so cheap! That is also a subjective question. For some, a lot of money (low) is more than $ 1000, and for some very serious players and collectors, who would gladly exchange his home for the right upright bass. (I personally thanked a colleague of mine personnel, without help raise the prices of antiquity, the Italian bass, upright by paying one of the highest prices recorded (something than the sum of $ 300,000.) We have recently heard of another sale of nearly half a million (ie U.S. dollars!).
Even in This economy rocks, the sky is the limit for a great tool, historical, in the providence and authenticity! For our own (practical) purposes, going to stay with the low of less than $ 10,000.
Low plywood usually the "Portal" for serious players receive when they buy his first bass. Low plywood are a safe bet in that do not require much attention to the care of them (low plywood is less likely to be effected by weather or hard lumps like the more expensive low carved). Despite these low "Cheaper", do not buy one that is "too cheap". Remember what our parents told us ….? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Only when you have researched and shopped around the Internet today, get a quick idea of what not to buy, you can get a better idea of what you're doing and know what a "good deal" on a low really is.
Low Wood plywood again, are good to begin with because they are cheaper and more accessible to beginning players who want to see if they really like the bass or not. Later if they like, they can operate up to a better low. Good wood will cost between $ 1,000-2,000. Personally, I would not pay more than that. With all the competition in prices and new imports, you can get a great low professional level of wood for a price that is closer to the bottom of the top. For new low, you can get one with a good warranty (which does not pay the money if something goes wrong with the bass or later becomes known that there is some kind of default.) A tuning fork solid, good quality ebony is a necessity, European channels (or Thomastik Pirastro), and a cover should be included. If you are buying a low for the first time, do not buy one on Ebay for $ 495!
Even the semblance of issues untrained eye can actually cost a small fortune to repair or do the right thing. An animated series? Planning a pitch can go from $ 100-150. Open seams, between $ 25 200, depending on what it is. Often under the bridge is not well either, the pitch of planning needs, the strings need to be replaced, etc … drink (if possible) a good luthier qualified. They point out that there is nothing that does not know to ignore or give a thumbs up. They could also try to show that their actions too. Nothing wrong with that, and weigh the pros and cons of both.
The hybrid vertical low are "Among" the low carved and low. Hybrids (while they never have the final quality of tone and a low carved) to take a greater tonal range scale wood under regular. A hybrid bass is a bass with a carved top and the rest of the floor is still plywood. Much of the way it works the bass the tonal and the answer has more to do with superior flexibility and vibration. So having a low carved up not only sound better than a wood (in most cases), will enjoy the durability of the wood as the back and sides (being wood) do not contract and expand as a regular solid wood bass. Why is it beneficial? With low carved recruitment and expansion during the seasonal changes every year, can cause the top, back or side to crack. Repairs are expensive! These low are cheaper than a low carved too. Lots of professional players like to use a hybrid, since can run all over the city (take out), while not having to worry too much about the care and maintenance. Many professionals keep to keep one of these low as their "second" or low support for its fine, carved solid bass (stay) home.
Get a good bass carved as mentioned earlier in this article, can really vary in price. This is where prices are highest, but the higher the price, sometimes mistakes Large can do (and avoid!) First, if you're relatively new to look at the low, try to get an expert opinion. Take your teacher with you and pay for it / She would normally be their time for a lesson or concert. In this way, will be able to identify the problems that low may have. Cracks, or more seriously necessary repairs often do not realize most players. The money you pay to the teacher of this will be the best money spent ever!
There are plenty of good choices when buying a property in an upright position on these days. Quality can be as good or better than Germany ever was. The Chinese are skilled artisans, experts and they have had centuries of traditions of woodcarving and handicrafts. Whatever your price range may be, and all Internet resources, you can find a great bass, durable and well made. In addition, the guarantees: The new upright bass always come with some kind insurance (all included) to replace the warranty or repair anything that goes wrong with normal wear and tear "and the attention" of the bass.
