Should I buy a Honda or a Volvo?

I have two cars I am considering purchasing for my college commute vehicle; a 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon (which I really like) or a 1991 Honda Accord coupe (that I think is OK) which has some slight damage. They are both around the same price, but the Accord has 230,000km while the Volvo has 380,000km. What do you think? I know that the volvo has worse gas milage reputation, yet it would be much safer (although the owner claims to get 27-28mpg). The accord would probably get better milage and have cheaper upkeap, but what if I crash? I will be using it for a 150km each way once a week commute.

I would pick the Volvo. More comfortable, better utility, more power, safer, solid car. These cars are pretty conventional so there is nothing too special about maintaining them. Just make sure the turbo is good by pulling off the intake hose and turning it with your hand to make sure it isn’t binding.

The Honda has the edge on gas mileage, but not by much. Those figures are comparable to my 745.
