It refrigerant (R-22, Puron) safe?
I was very intereted in the heating equipment and air after we got new furnaces and heat pumps installed. The new A / C uses Puron instead of R-22. Puron maker says it is not toxic, but read the safety data sheet of Puron, I feel that it is 100 percent safe. In concetration high, it could kill people and create tumor, too. Well, if so, in our application residential A / C, a leak (no know where, and say that all four pounds of Puron leaked), which could be the problem? In general, A / C 4 Ton system takes about 10 pounds of Puron. You may leak into the wall or attic or in the evaporator could escape. Is there a security mechanism for this incident?
As is refers to the cooling of refrigerant is the safest compared to Freon or Ammonia .. I'm not saying go out drinking because it is good for you. I do not bathe in it, or drink, but I use A / C. Other refrigerants such as ammonia are deadly vapors but people still use it because of cost.
