Should the American be guilty?
Switzerland is a rich country.
One theory goes that two main reasons for their richness are:
a) Switzerland did not participate in any of the World Wars. Rich folk from all over moved their money thinking it would be safe there. (Many were not alive after the wars to claim their money.)
b) Swiss banking secrecy laws do not permit easy access to details of the account-holder. So huge amounts from world’s most corrupt leaders go there regularly.
I have heard that some of the Swiss are actually guilty of their country’s riches because the reasons for it are not so laudable.
Likewise, Americans have been accused of plundering the poorer nations for their selfish reasons. This video will give you a clearer picture.
If this be the case, should the American feel guilty too? Are they?
Most of what our government does is out of our hands and we have no say, despite who we vote for. So I don’t feel guilty for all the evil the government does (and getting more evil by the minute with the cons balancing the budget on the backs of the poor.) We engage in all kinds of things, like invading countries, that many of us hate. I don’t feel guilty. We don’t have a say in who runs for president – it’s usually who gets the most money from the corporations and we dont’ have a say in what the candidates do after they are elected.
So while I feel sad and appalled at some of the actions of the government, I don’t feel guilty.
Just like the Swiss. The average Swiss person is not responsible for what their government does, so they shouldn’t feel guilty either.
